Log Files

Adventures in Nova Scotia follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites. All hosting companies do this and a part of hosting services’ analytics. The information collected by log files include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable. The purpose of the information is for analyzing trends, administering the site, tracking users’ movement on the website, and gathering demographic information.

Cookies and Web Beacons

Like any other website, Adventures in Nova Scotia uses ‘cookies’. These cookies are used to store information including visitors’ preferences, and the pages on the website that the visitor accessed or visited. The information is used to optimize users’ experiences by customizing our web page content based on visitors’ browser type and/or other information. Children’s information

As parents and grandparents, we are particularly concerned about protection for children when they use the internet. We encourage parents and guardians to observe, participate in, and/or monitor and guide their online activity. Adventures in Nova Scotia does not knowingly collect any personal identifiable information from children under the age of 13. If you think that your child provided this kind of information on our website, we strongly encourage you to contact us immediately and we will do our best efforts to promptly remove such information from our records.

Spam protection software

We collect information about visitors who comment on sites that use our Akismet anti-spam service. The information we collect depends on how Akismet is set up for the site, but typically includes the commenter’s IP address, user agent, referrer, and Site URL (along with other information directly provided by the commenter such as their name, username, email address, and the comment itself).

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here.  After approval of your comment, your Gravatar profile picture (if you have one) is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Newsletter subscriptions

Please be assured that your email and information is safe.  I will NEVER sell, loan, give, or let any other entity use myemail/client list. I am not great at putting newsletters together, so don’t worry — if you subscribe to our mailing list, you’re not going to get a lot of them from me.  In any event, you may unsubscribe anytime you like on the unsubscribe feature in every email.
